A Peek Into Last Week :: Whole30 week 3, Silhouette stickers, Sabbatical start and a thumb injury!

Last week began with the close of our annual church camping trip — a wonderful time of connection with this group we love so much.

The week also ushered in our Sabbatical start!

Though we had a few things to wrap up due to taking off a bit early for said camping trip, we were able to release the work into capable hands…and begin the process of intentional REST.

This my friends is easier said than done. 🙂

I definitely feel the tug to chip away at some home organizational projects (and I will eventually), but then reminded myself that these first few weeks we especially designed to be low-key and more laid-back.

I did straighten and organize my planning, journaling and dreaming space (I have another spot for doing bills, homeschool planning, etc).

Organizing my spaces brings clarity to my mind and creates room for crafting adventures…

…which is just what I did!  I wrote often, made TONS of stickers for myself, the kids and my planner pen pal using my Silouhette Portrait machine, and just overall enjoyed the space. Often, one of my children joined in the process and kept me company.  Bliss.

Last week I read A Placed Called Hopea fiction book! 🙂  Not really my style, and a bit quirky, but this novel about a Quaker pastor’s experiences in his church made me laugh often.  Mudhouse Sabbath, a favorite reread, is next on my list.  From Scripture, I am reading the books of I & II Samuel.

If you’re looking for a movie recommendation, I (re)watched The Prize Winner from Defiance, Ohio.  A favorite “great Mom” movie of mine!

As I already shared on social media last week, somehow I hurt my left thumb!

Initially thought of as a sprain or tendonitis, but now being treated as an infection in my hand (weird, weird I know!).  Over two days, my thumb and then index finger kept swelling…and causing a fair amount of pain and numbness.

Anti-inflammatory meds and antibiotics are offering relief and I feel much better.

Whew, on to other topics — like the success of Whole30 so far!

Though there have been a few challenging moments, such as a serious craving for ice cream one night, but overall, I am doing GREAT.

Food is an interesting thing, and I truly love cooking and eating a variety.  This Whole30 journey has been helpful though in identifying my relationship to food…

…why and when I want it, how I cook it and more.  I am learning much!

Of course, the week wasn’t all pleasant. The terrible Charleston, SC tragedy shook me up considerably…more thoughts on this another time perhaps.  For now, I pray.

Last week also brought time outdoors with the children, a date night of crackin’ and eating crabs with my spouse, a NEW piano teacher for our oldest son…

…and I have yet to fully unpack from the camping trip! 🙂  Totally typical of me.

In the next few days, I’ll share a homeschool review of some fantastic history & science cards.  Until then, I hope your days are blessed!

Today is our last day of Whole 30! I hear you about learning about my relationship with food!! Our whole family has done the diet and we’ve felt much better when we choose raw veggies and lots of greens, but we all gravitate toward root vegetables and fruit. The only thing I really miss is oatmeal. 🙂ReplyCancel
