Last week I wrote over at The Better Mom about having a YES mentality this summer.
I enjoy the leisure days of these months. My children also appreciate less organization, but definitely like to ‘do stuff’ (according to the 7.5 year old).
So far, I believe our days include a good mix of hanging out time and organized activity or play. Last week brought plenty of FREE and fun things to do. I thought I’d share them with you:
:: lots and lots of simple outdoor play — the sprinkler, scooters, basketball, sidewalk chalk, or sometimes sitting in the shade reading a book
:: library programs! Be sure to check out any free or frugal local programs around you — last week the boys enjoyed bingo night, Touch a Truck with the fire department, and chess club. Plus plenty of books checked out for reading.
:: their sister had friends over. This of course meant lots of laughter, joking and singing coming from the basement! 🙂
:: farm day at a local grocery. Another free activity which I honestly wanted to do for recreating the memory. I took the children to this event when they were much younger (and when petting a cow felt fresh and new!)...so really, it was all about nostalgia. We had fun though trying out food samples, getting a tractor ride and yes, petting the animals.
I enjoyed a movie with my teen girl, a few outings with dear friends, and down time reflecting, praying and thinking on upcoming decisions. Overall, a full yet simple week!
What are you up to this summer?
What a beautiful family! I love summer…in my mind it is a time of slowing down and enjoying my family and the outdoors. It means taking time to do lazy things like reading, sitting in lawn chairs and grilling simple foods for dinner. I cherish each and every summer with my children, especially as they are mostly grown now with three still living at home and the youngest being 18. Thank you for your lovely post and sharing the delightful photos of your family! May God continue to bless you all!
Thank you Lisa!
I love this!!! Really reminds me of my childhood!!! <3 And I hope to do some of these with the kids this summer. How could I forget reading a book in the shade? I remember one summer I read all kinds of library books to the kids under the trees. I think sometimes even neighbor kids joined us. LOL LOVE the picture with the huge truck wheel; so cute. 🙂
Grab a book and head to the shade! 🙂
