scripture reading for the early teen years {resources for little ones too!}

Encouraging our children in their spiritual path is a huge priority for Christian parents — and we’re no exception.

With a variety of ages in our home, finding ways to keep Bible reading front and center can be a bit tricky.  We’ve done times all together {see how we do our morning devotional time as a group – lots of resources!} and we also spend time one on one with certain children.  Soon, our ‘morning basket time’ will start again.

Right now, our 9 year-old is reading through Jesus Calling, a devotional passed down from her older sister who read it last year.  The book includes Scriptures to read and further look into.

In the evenings, my husband reads through The Big Picture Story Bible with our 6 yr-old and almost 3-yr old boys.  This Bible, which tells the stories as ONE big story, is a favorite in our home!

Said older sister, age 13, is currently reading through Proverbs by choosing the chapter that matches the date — we’re also thinking of illustrating some proverbs because they’re just so funny {and she likes cartooning}!  She’s also memorizing through parts of Matthew for Bible quiz team.

I’ve written a little more specifically on supporting teens in their Bible reading journey over at The Better Mom today — it’s part of a series, so check out posts on other ages as well.

You’ll find lots of tips, resources and practical advice.  Hop on over and share any tips of your own!

    Thanks for the wonderful advice. We, too, are just moving into the teen world with a few of our five- have one who is reading the Bible through in a year and another who can’t seem to focus long enough to complete a chapter of John 🙂 Love how God can capture their hearts through His Word even though they are so different! I can’t wait to check out your recommended apps. Grateful for the guidance! Blessings to you and yours!ReplyCancel
