Always on the lookout for quality homeschooling products, I scooped up the opportunity to review this newest release!

Classical Conversations has designed a cursive writing program which emphasizes not only how children write, but also what they write.  This is great for copy-work recommended by both Charlotte Mason and Classical methods.

Prescripts :: an excellent mix of cursive, Scripture, history, art & drawing and famous American documents!

What’s included in Prescripts?

Spiral-bound and printed on quality paper, Prescripts is a series of four books which progress from beginning cursive skills to more difficult.  The skills do not end with cursive however, lessons include step-by-step drawing lessons in progression from easy to more complex as well!

In addition, each book centers around a theme for the cursive writing and/or art lessons.

Books progress in the following order:

• white spiral – letters & coloring – medieval history scenes, simple drawing lessons
• red spiral – words & drawing – Scripture focus
• green spiral – sentences & art lessons – medieval to modern world history
• blue spiral – passages & illuminations – American Documents

Comparing the Prescripts Books

In the above photo, you can spot the difference between book one (white spiral) and book two (red spiral) – both include traditional tracing of letters and words, with space for writing on one’s own.

Below each writing lesson is a drawing lesson, or in book one, it could also be a coloring page.  First the child would trace each step, and there is space below to complete again on their own.

The green spiral book above (#3 in the series) becomes more involved in cursive and art – though the lessons for drawing are not as often as the previous two books.

Cursive sentences are based on medieval to modern history and provide ample practice for students who have already mastered turning cursive letters into words.

The final book pictured is book 4 whose focus is on Amercian Documents and illuminations, the fancy first letter of the first word in the document.

Students do not receive specific instruction on how to draw these illuminations (though a book for further study is recommended), but space is provided for drawing practice. Consider it wonderful for intricate doodling! 🙂

Final Thoughts on Prescripts

Anyone can use Prescripts!  While Classical Conversations (CC) mentions these are cued to Cycle 2 Memory work, one does not need to be involved in the CC community (we’re not) to order or to use this curriculum.

Student can definitely progress at their own pace.  If about one page were completed each day, books would last for the duration of an average school year (33-36 weeks)

The books are consumable, yet affordable — and they are on sale right now!

We are thrilled to own these and want to dig right in!  Our plan is for the 1st grader to use Book 1, the 4th grader to use Book 2, and the 9th grader requested to work through Book 4.  And yes, we’ll progress at our own pace.
