Today I’m sharing not only great reads (in my opinion of course), but also what I am listening to or watching — feel free to share yours in the comments!

What I’m Reading

The Traveler’s Gift, Seven Decisions that Determine Personal Success:  This book is actually a quick read, a mix of fictional tale with significant life truths within.  I had heard about the title via an online conference, and just finished it recently.  Right away, I asked my high school senior to read it as well, and we are exploring the story together.  Great food for thought.

Women in the Word, How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts and Our Minds:  I cannot say enough good about this book!!  This is a reread for me as we prepare to use it for church small groups this winter.  If I can recommend ONE book to women about how to approach the study of Scripture — it would be this one.  Rich.

Failure is Hard. The End:  this blog post from Crystal moved me so deeply, I have read it at least three times in the past week.  Ah, I can relate to the pain which accompanies failure or courageous steps in life, and how others misunderstand or misinterpret.  I appreciated her honesty and integrity in this post.

(Just Released!) Audacious by Beth Moore – I downloaded this read to my Kindle Paperwhite yesterday.  Beth Moore is one of my favorite Bible teachers, but I have not read many of her books or studies lately.

This book’s description sounds like what I need in this life season!

(Just Released!) Hoodwinked, Ten Myths Moms Believe & Why We All Need to Knock It Off:  I am thrilled for my author friends Ruth and Karen on the launch of their book….which is also a DVD group study!  I have just started reading and finding the words refreshing and encouraging.

Take a peek at some MYTHS:

  • mothering is natural, easy and instinctive
  • everything depends on me
  • motherhood is all-consuming and all-fulfilling
  • and more

Looking forward to reading the rest!

(Just Released!) Money Making Mom, How Every Woman Can Earn More and Make a Difference:  I have been following Crystal’s blog for years.  First it was for the deals and sale notifications, but I have really appreciated her openness in personal posts (like the Failure one above).

Her new book is so far a fantastic read for any Mom hoping to make income from home, and to contribute to the needs of those around her — her family and community.  Do check it out!

What I’m Watching

I didn’t grow up with television and in adulthood, it doesn’t seem to have much appeal to me (at least not yet).

But, I do love Downton Abbey — and I am trying to catch up before Season 6 in January.  I am currently on Season 5, Episode 4 and catching it via Amazon Prime streaming.

What I’ve Been Listening To

Last month I tuned into Michael Hyatt’s Influence and Impact Summit (no longer available) — multiple video sessions from popular influencers around the country.

The goal focused on growth in leadership and understanding our impact on the communities we serve.  Incredible and inspirational!!

I did not have time to listen to every person featured, but caught several sessions.  I’ll be referencing my notes for days to come…I learned SO much!

In music, my current new-to-me favorites are Sovereign Over Us by Michael W. Smith and Sing by Pentatonix.  Yes, I have varied tastes in music. 🙂
