how traditions grow family

how traditions grow family

I’ve talked before of why traditions are worth the effort.

the importance of family rhythms to mark seasons, celebrations, the passage of time.

For it’s more than just an event, really.  Though little ones may not remember or even truly understand why —

it’s the making of family :: this living of life together.

As parents, when we purposely create room for patterns and rhythms our family holds dear,

children learn and grow.  Through these traditions, even the simplest ones, we find opportunity to teach…

to draw hearts closer,  to showcase the character and handiwork of God.

Isn’t this what He had in mind?

“These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6: 6-7 (emphasis added)

Do not neglect these ties that bind.  Take time, make room — celebrate one another.  Celebrate God.

And as we’re faithful, He’ll make us family.
