June is moving way too fast I think….
My days are full, more than normal; still adjusting to new schedules and routines for our family. Each week is better and we’re moving into a rhythm that feels right.
As much as possible, I’m trying to soak up the beauty and freedom of summer days.
Resisting the distraction of work ‘to be done’ and remembering there’s also a life ‘to be lived’. Living vibrantly within my family and the communities we cherish isn’t something I want to fade into the background. This vibrant living includes our work of course, but not exclusively.
I’m purposefully choosing to move slower, prioritize sleep, enjoy simple pleasures and celebrate the work already accomplished.
Oh, these days are good….

One way I try to relax is to read, read, read.
I have more books on my list than I’ll ever get to this summer, but below are my two currents (affiliate links below):
Plain Faith: A True Story of Tragedy, Loss and Leaving the Amish – Zondervan sent me this book and I’m happy to dig in, especially since we live around an Amish community (not the same one as the book references).
While this book is nonfiction, I’m happy to read something other than my norm of personal growth, homeschooling or leadership books. 🙂
An Unhurried Life: Following Jesus’ Rhythms of Work and Rest – I’ve read most of this book before and really appreciated the author’s perspectives. Re-reading is proving to be a restful spot in my days, reminders of what I know and want to intentionally practice.
Right now I’m in a chapter titled ‘Unhurried Enough to Care’. Hmmm…so true, yes? We rush, jump from this to that, barely have time enough for ourselves much less others, and all the while…people are hurting and in need around us.
Can we not hurry in order to demonstrate care?
Jesus did…

And you…how are your summer days?
I just want to say that I love this article and all of your posts! I feel like I’m at the spa for a few moments when I read your words – they’re so restful and relaxing, evoking a sense of calm within me.
Thank you Davonne, what a lovely compliment! Appreciate you pausing to share this encouragement…..
